Dear experts,

What would be a reasonable fee for hauling 2, maybe 4 horses (I don't know the final number yet so both quotes will be appreciated) in one trailer? It's a return trip, 70km each way.

Thanks in advance.

esp. if the shipper has to wait all day...if there was only two horses there might be an aditional charge for the wait...

Riverglen: Yes, I am trying to figure out the cost of transportation when hiring a private trailer and sharing it with other people. Internet wasn't much helpful...

Verve: Thank you. Is this number coming from your experience or just a guess?

I think Verve is about right- I am hearing that 1.85/km (based on the distance of the destination, so in your case $1.85x70km, not $1.85x140) is an average/competitive rate, that would be $129.50. With a full trailer you might be able to cut a deal per horse depending on who you use and if the horses are at the same barn, since they could be making a trip with one horse at that rate. Also yes, it could be more if they have to wait around.

I use a commercial shipper for my horses and its 125/horse or 100/horse if I have more than one to take.
