Dear experts,
What would be a reasonable fee for hauling 2, maybe 4 horses (I don't know the final number yet so both quotes will be appreciated) in one trailer? It's a return trip, 70km each way. Thanks in advance. This message has been edited. Last edited by: riders_mom, |

Are you looking for an indea of rates you would pay to a commercial hauler?

esp. if the shipper has to wait all day...if there was only two horses there might be an aditional charge for the wait...

Riverglen: Yes, I am trying to figure out the cost of transportation when hiring a private trailer and sharing it with other people. Internet wasn't much helpful...
Verve: Thank you. Is this number coming from your experience or just a guess? |

I think Verve is about right- I am hearing that 1.85/km (based on the distance of the destination, so in your case $1.85x70km, not $1.85x140) is an average/competitive rate, that would be $129.50. With a full trailer you might be able to cut a deal per horse depending on who you use and if the horses are at the same barn, since they could be making a trip with one horse at that rate. Also yes, it could be more if they have to wait around.

I use a commercial shipper for my horses and its 125/horse or 100/horse if I have more than one to take.
