Okay so I think its called downgrading (?) but I'm not 100% - when a horse that has shown at higher level must be downgraded to show at a lower level with the same rider?

Just wondering how it works? If I remember correctly you had to get permission or if it was over XX amounts of years between shows, it was fine.

Here is the deal:

We had to stop eventing due to an injury about 5 years ago (we were showing at Pre-training then). After recovering a year later, I was too scared to jump in fear of my horse hurting himself again so we pick up dressage and have been showing dressage ever since. 3 years ago, I started jumping again after making sure his legs were fully recovered - however height is limited still.

Anyways, he loved eventing and since we have been doing quite good in the last year or so, I was thinking of doing an event just for fun and to help get his confidence back (he lost a lot of it b/c he did not jump for a loooong time although he really enjoys jumping again, I find he isn't a brave as he used to be).

I obviously cannot do pre-training so would I be allowed to do the lower division? I placed at the Entry Champs and was told I had to move up to Pre-training - although this was 5-6years ago...

In your situation, you have no problems!
You might have to go in the Open division though, but that might be at the discretion of the organizer of the show!
Enjoy the eventing season! I am sure it will be a fantastic one for all Smiler

Equus…there is no longer “downgrading” in Canada…has not been for a few years now. Eligibility for a division is found on the Eligibility Chart (check the OHTA website to see the entire chart)

The rule states that a “regular” division is open to any competitor who has NOT completed 3 events at that level or above during the previous 2 calendar years. If you have, you enter the OPEN division.

In your case, you have not Evented in 5 years; so you may enter any level in the regular division (or the open division if you choose).

What division a rider enters is NEVER at the discretion of the organizer. Hope this helps.
