This is what was chatted about Selena to date:

11:40 Samantha: ext up was Selena O Hanlon riding Colombo for Canada. Last year they were 20th here, and 45th in Hong Kong at the Olympics. This spring they were 3rd in an advanced division at Rocking Horse.

11:42 Samantha: Colombo is a bright bay with big movement, and came in going very forward from the get go, but lacked polish. He has a lovely swinging stride with lots of elevation but sometimes pops above the bit. He had a lovely walk across the arena, one of the best halts we've seen all morning, ok rein back, a great strong medium canter, but a little untidy in the transition to collected. Nice changes and you really like to see a rider being brave and riding so forward in the ring. Not at all a bad performance, a little inconsistent, but some really nice parts.

Your mind before the race:
80m run
8 hurdles
34 steps
12 seconds
1 start line
1 finish line
1 gun shot
1 winner, the rest losers

Now try thinking about it when it is acually happening.

Rolex claims another life again this year.

"It is with great sadness that we announce that Kingpin, ridden by Mike Winter and owned by the rider and Kingpin Syndicate, died while competing at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event on April 25, 2009. Kingpin, a 13-year old Irish Sport Horse, fell while negotiating Fence 10 and died at the scene.

The rider was evaluated by medical personnel on site and sent to Georgetown Community Hospital for further evaluation.

Veterinary and medical personnel were in attendance at the time of the fall. The caude of the horse's death will be abbounced when determined after a necropsy."

Oh no! Poor Mike Frowner RIP Kingpin.
Fence #10 was a straightfoward trakehner, nothing crazy about it. Maybe Mike came at it too fast and Kingpin didn't have enough time to get his feet out of the way, chested it and flipped. I've seen a horse *almost* do this at the Radnor 3-Day. The rider came too fast, then 2 strides out, 'dropped' her horses face and the horse chested it and was nose to the ground, straight up in the air. Luckily he didn't flip over the whole way! Does anyone know what happend?

According to Catherine Kohn, Vetinerary Delegate, Kingpin bled into his abdomen, and as far as she could tell, had no broken bones as a result of the fall. "He most likely died of natural causes, not as a result of the fence," she said.

Dr Christiana Ober, the Canadian Eventing Team veterinarian, said King Pin suffered a hemorrhage of the large vessels in the abdomen, unrelated to any jumping effort or trauma. "This is a very rare condition and the actual cause is unknown," she said.
