What is the point of the new qualifications if people are not following them? Who's job is it to check the qualifications of riders entering Training and above?

If someone has done ONE event at PT (ever, on any horse) where the results are publicly available (either on US Eventing, Equine Canada or Eventing News).... and got eliminated... why are they then entered at Training level that same event on the same horse the next year?... without horse or rider having done an event in the meantime?

Do organizers have a better system for checking qualifications than that available to the general public?

Guess Who...it is the responsibility of the rider to know what level they are qualified to ride at and it is also the responsibility of the rider to be honest.

The OHTA is checking rider eligibility as much as we can, and of course other riders are sometimes VERY quick to e-mail us to let us know someone is not following the rules.

These are National rules not provincial ones…if you would like to speak to the Rules Chair of the CEC and get more details, please contact Jo Young at jo.young@zing-net.ca

I think that Verve makes a valid point.

How can you be sure that an individual didn't compete at that level years ago and then take a break, only to get back into the swing of things recently? I know that EC results go back only so far on line.

Or maybe, the individual is a lady who recently tied the knot and has taken her spouces last name. I know when I did this both EC and the OEF issued me new numbers despite the fact that I put a huge note on my renewals and cited my old numbers. It was a real PITA trying to get that sorted.

Just playing the devils advocate here...

But it doesn't actually matter that you went Intermediate in 1995... or even 2006. It doesn't matter even that your horse did the 2004 Olympics. Your qualifications only last 2 calendar years.

So unless you have done 3 Pre-Trainings in 2007, 2008 or 2009 (2 clean cross-country, 1 with no more than a stop... all 3 with respectable dressage scores and no more than 4 rails)... and your horse has done 3 Pre-Trainings (same criteria) with either you or someone else in that same timeframe... then you are currently NOT ALLOWED to go Training.
