I am looking for a rider with some experience to work/school some horses. This will be free riding, & lessons, possible showing for the right person. Located between Arnprior and Renfrew. Must have own transportation, and a few years experience preferably including jumping.

Can I have one too... Smiler

Lots of fun horses to ride if you paint my jumps, clean my tack and stand with my farrier (he is nice so it is not a bad job)

You don't seem to understand...I would like a responsible, horsey, crazy keen, five-years jumping experience (preferably Young Riders Championships qualified but not necessary), driver's licence holding teenager (can be early 20s) to come and ride my horses too...

Ah verve, if you'd expand your age range to 30-something then I'd fit your requirements ;-)

Hey Verve,
If you paid me, I'd come ride them... AND I'd even hold your horses for your blacksmith for free! Wink

I rode other people's horses for free in my teens because I was horse crazy, but I think asking for barn chores in exchange is unlikely to evoke a response.

I'm just happy to have someone who wants to ride. I do all my own barn chores and am not looking for labour. I do expect riders to clean up after themselves, including their tack, help with routine in the barn & clean up after themselves in the house. I clean up enough after my own family Smiler

is there a shortage of keen kids who would rather sweep the barn then have to go home once all the ponies have been ridden??

verve, i still remember your barley soup, it was nice of you to feed me when i just wouldn't go home :P

I have a good friend overseas, right now cleaning stalls for lessons and riding time. If you are committed to gaining good riding experience then you'd do anything to get more time in the saddle. I don't need to tell you horses are not cheep and they require a lot of hands to keep things going. I think this is a great opportunity for someone lacking sufficient funds to own or lease their own horse. I applaud 'Cindi' for her GREAT offer. No stall cleaning?? I'll be there tomorrow!

but seriously I hope someone deserving gets it.

When I was young it was the best opportunity for me to muck stalls (and a lot of them!!) for my time in the saddle since my parents were not digging in their pockets for me. I didn't realize times have changed so much!!

Your mind before the race:
80m run
8 hurdles
34 steps
12 seconds
1 start line
1 finish line
1 gun shot
1 winner, the rest losers

Now try thinking about it when it is acually happening.

Usually if I ride for someone they pay for gas plus a small fee for riding and my time because the horse benifits/ YOU benifit from my services I provide. Same with showing, the client pays entries and my time or /class +gas. So technically cleaning stalls should be paid and riding. Though I guess lessons are different because they do cost money so in that case it evens out but if it's just riding time personally as a 'horse crazy teenager' that has been riding for a long time I'm not really jumping at it. Though, that's just me. Smiler Good luck finding someone though!

I'm racing on a track without a horse. I'm bull fighting in a ring without the bull. Track and Wrestling is my life.

You need to ride A LOT of different horse to gain experience and become a 'horse person'. I think this is a fantastic opportunity for any horse crazy teenager who is really looking at their long term involvement with horses. A professional rider wouldn't be interested, obviously, but i don't think that is what the original poster is looking for. I was free-riding and free-training well into my 20s so i could have free rein to learn new skills and work with many more horses then i could afford to pay to ride or own. there is no waste of time when you are working with horses. I think of it as a free education Smiler

adell-jen, well said. I concur. I would have killed for this opportunity when i was younger and couldn't afford a horse or lease. I hope you find a suitable person to take you up on this offer and good for you to give them a chance. Time in the saddle is time well spent!

Wow, am I out of the loop. People expect to be paid to ride already broke horses who they can take into the show ring (with entries paid) and receive free instruction on? Sounds like a fabulous experience to me. I have worked at farms in exchange free riding - never mind the lessons! (And I am a little bit more experienced than "some jumping") Wink

I hope you find a hard-working and deserving candidate!

I am a 25 year old experienced rider who is looking for a project in the Ottawa area. I have been riding since I was 7 years old, have been blessed to have experienced having my own pony and horses over the years, have been involved with pony club, showed eventing and stadium jumping, and have worked with young, green, and "difficult" horses. I have ridden sporadically throughout the last couple of years, as I have been financially and emotionally invested in university, but I am now looking to get back into the horse back riding community in Ottawa. If this sounds like what you are looking for, please contact me via email, tanglewood_J@hotmail.com.

Thank you,
Jennifer Munroe
