Does anyone know of anything that will bring my black horse that has been bleached from sun back to black? He is not quite as eye catching as he was at the beginning of summer and winter. Anything you can think of!?

loving a horse isn't loving what it looks like, it's loving what they are all about

If your horse is already bleached, I'm not sure how much you can do- its much easier to prevent a faded/bleached coat than it is to fix one!

I've never personally tried the Black As Knight products, but have heard only good things about them. If you can, turn out only at night, and bring the horse in during the day. If that's not possible, then I would get a good flysheet (I like the Pessoa ones). The flysheets are much cooler than just a summer sheet, but will help to prevent any more bleaching!
Hope I helped!

Once they are bleached I find you can't really get the coat black again til next year but I have a black mare that only bleaches under the saddle so that's good... I guess lol I put a fly sheet on one of the weatherbeta's it's light blue goes up the neck and covers almost everything but the legs. I find it prevents around 90% of bleaching that usually occurs on my mare without the sheet.

I haven't used the Black As Knight because the bleaching can be mostly prevented with the sheets and why feed your horse chemicals when you can just cover them up.

i dont really know of anything that can fix a bleached coat, and personally I wouldn't trust feeding my horse the chemicals in those colour enhancing products, what I know to prevent bleaching is to do night turnout and to avoid putting your horse out wet, since the sun magnifies and burns the hair,

I did a little research, just for my own knowledge, and it turns out that there arent any chemicals in Black As Knight.

Quoted from the Black As Knight website:
"Completely natural, Black-As-Knight is not a harsh chemical dye. Instead, feed this delicious supplement and the health filled ingredients that are incorporated into the hairs as they are forming under the skin... Formulated from an all natural combination of healthy oils, seaweeds, spices and more..."
The only thing I am skeptical about is the "delicious" part! Wink

quonking, I think and this is one persons opinion...that the only way to regain his colour is to body clip him and then maintain with fly sheets, cotton sheets during the day or turnout only at night.

apparently a tablespoon of paprika every day will prevent the sun fading through the summer.

i have used quick color and quick black and found it made my guy look kinda bronzy. A darker bronze, but certainly not black.

Paprika works just as well as Black as night and is much cheaper.

Paprika is one of the main ingredients in Black as Night

Oh nice!
Could you buy paprika at Bulk Barn? Would it have to be anything special? Or just regular, run of the mill, paprika spice?

You can buy it at the bulk barn, but I buy mine at the regular grocery store. I buy the bulk jars for 4.99.
You will need to stop using it 4-5 days before a show as it will test.
