would u say dessage is harder because of all of the steps or would you say that hunter/jumper is harder because of all of the concentration and jumps?

Neither of them are harder than each other. Although some people may say so but each discipline has their hard and easy spots in it. Each rider puts the time and work into making their horse excell in the sport and discipline they have chosen.
Different levels and I guess you can call it types and techniques are needed to excell in each of these disciplines. So it would be unfair to judge on what discipline is better or more fun or harder because oviously people will favour what they like or do and it would be very bias and based on opinions. |

Don't forget that dressage is a part of jumping. Many GP show jumpers have a really good dressage base (some up to GP themselves). And cross training a dressage horse to jump can improve cadence etc. So at the same time each can complement the other.
And both have different demands so its hard to say one is harder than the other |

I would say both are equal. High level Dressage and high level jumping both require good skills by the rider for the horse to preform well. Jumpers train in Dressage a lot to improve but Dressage horses do not train in Jumping to improve their skill...so that must say something but I do not think it means one is harder than the other.

Jumping and Dressage take just as much cordination. They both require just as much persision movements. They they are different, but this is really an opinion question because anything can be harder than something if you have to nit pick points. If you compaire a Grand Prix International Jumping event with a entry level Dressage show sure the jumping would be harder but if you take the same level of the two disciplines you will see the riders work on a lot of the same things and they work just as hard in either sport.
Next time you take a lesson why don't you post what you did because I garentee you half of the lesson will be flat work and working on lateral movements and the other half would be applying the things you just learnt into your jumping courses. Jumping is pretty much Dressage with fences. You do the exact same thing. |

It is like school, what do you find harder, math or science? It is basically what you really like, you will find easier. I personally find dressage harder, because I love jumping. I had a dressage coach who is very VERY top notch...she can make any horse look good. However, one time she had to show off a horse she was selling. She had to jump him, and basically, she was bad at it. So it's what you've practiced more and what you like more. That's my two cents in!!
